Carlsen Played the Turkish Gambit Too! (Like a Machine)

The video covers the increasingly popular Turkish Gambit (1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5!?) and how world champion Magnus Carlsen played it. GM Mert Erdoğdu and FM Alper Olcayöz are mentioned among players who have added the gambit to their repertoire.

Carlsen – Galakhov

As Black against GM Sergey Galakhov, Carlsen played 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5 3.exd5 e4 4.Qe2 Nf6 5.Nc3 Be7, sacrificing the central pawn for a development lead and pressure (0:45). Galakhov retreated with Qd1; Carlsen’s ...c5 stopped White’s d4 (2:27).

Endgame

After the queen exchange, White’s bishop and queen were tied to defending the d3 pawn (7:10). Around move 35 Carlsen was a pawn down but positionally superior, and he showed flawless technique in the rook-and-bishop endgame. Watch the video for the result.
