Carlsen Mated! (With the Turkish Gambit)

FM Selim Gürcan analyses a one-minute bullet game in which Carlsen plays the Turkish Gambit as Black, and points out the calculating power he shows within a single minute.

Opening

The game began 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5 (0:33). Black developed quickly with ...Nf6 and ...Be7 and took control of the centre. Gürcan says White’s Nbd2 is theoretically the most solid continuation (2:45); against the Qc4 attempt, Black can gain an edge with a tactical variation including a queen sacrifice (3:08).

Middlegame and mate

White castled long (4:03) and the game became a two-sided attack. Black pressed on the queenside with ...a5–a4; ...Qg6 (5:38) and ...a4 forced White to defend. The decisive moment came with ...Nf3+ (6:29). Watch the video for the mate.
