Mamedyarov's Speed Is Breathtaking: The German League

Mamedyarov scored an impressive 6 points from 8 games in the German League. The video examines his unusual preparation with Black against the Ruy Lopez and his endgame mastery.

A surprise in the Ruy Lopez

After 1.e4 e5 and Morphy's classical ...a6, Mamedyarov chose an unconventional path. The aim is to keep the central pawn structure solid and to head for squares such as f4 or h4 later on, gaining a flexible position.

The ...Qf6 novelty

While White increased the pressure on the centre with d4, Mamedyarov replied with a creative move (1:36-2:25). The continuation and the result are in the video.
