Turkish Gambit 1: A Great Opening Trap in Chess

In this first episode, FM Selim Gürcan introduces the Turkish Gambit (also known as the Elephant Gambit), an aggressive system for Black that surprises the opponent.

The surprise move: 2...d5

After 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3, the video recommends 2...d5 instead of the expected ...Nc6. The goal is to surprise the opponent on move two and take them out of their theoretical comfort zone.

Variations depending on White’s reply

If White plays 3.exd5, Black regains the tempo with ...Qxd5; if White then plays Nc3, that is already accounted for. If the knight retreats to c4, Black develops with ...Be6 and ...Nc6. If White castles short, Black can castle long and gain attacking chances. Against passive tries like 3.Qe2, Black completes development with ...Nf6, while 3.d3 and other sneaky lines call for care.
