This video introduces the “Reversed Turkish Gambit”, developed for players who have grown used to the Turkish Gambit as Black and want the same excitement with White.
The philosophy of the gambit
Selim Gürcan responds to the naming criticism: when an opening is played and developed a lot, that community can give it its own name. Although engines show White a pawn up and slightly better, the high success rates Black achieves in practical play are the reason the gambit is chosen (0:47–3:41).
The Reversed Turkish Gambit with White
The strategy is built on gaining tempo from the first move: 1.e4 e5 2.a3. If Black tries a Turkish-Gambit-like set-up (for example 2...Nf6), White can play the Turkish Gambit in reverse. The purpose of a3 and the follow-up are explained in the video.
