Mate with Two Knights: A Legendary Game from 2016

This video examines a legendary game Mamedyarov played in 2016, notable for its strategic depth and its final mate.

The Dutch Defence

The game began with d4 and Black replied f5, steering into a Dutch Defence setup (0:04-0:10). White developed with c4, Nf6 and Nc3 while Black developed the bishop on the diagonal with g6. Against this passive approach, Mamedyarov chose an aggressive plan with h4, aiming to open Black's kingside with h5 and to increase the pressure with sacrifices if needed.

Knight development from the edge

After the exchanges on g6, the rooks were traded (0:30-1:22). Instead of the usual f3, Mamedyarov planned to develop his knight via h3 and then reach the g5 and f4 squares. Black built a Stonewall-like structure. Watch the video to see the mate with two knights.
