Based on a game sent by follower Mustafa Zorlu, FM Selim Gürcan analyses the “Crazy Turkish Gambit”, developed against the Vienna Game (1.e4 e5 2.Nc3). It is Black’s aggressive and surprising answer to White’s attempt to avoid the Turkish Gambit.
How the game unfolds
Black sacrifices a pawn with 2...d5 and gains tempi with 3...Nf6 and 4...Qf6. After 5.Nf3 comes 5...Qe6; when White tries to calm things with 6.Qe2, 6...Qc2 sets a subtle trap (1:18). Black keeps harassing the opponent with moves such as ...Bc5, ...Bf5 and ...c6 (2:23, 2:33).
Finish and a historical note
Black launches an elegant attack with ...Bh3 (2:50) and delivers mate with 8...Nf3 (3:29). To explain the logic of the gambit, Gürcan shares an anecdote from 1997 (4:16). See the video for the details.
