The Turkish Gambit in Chess: All the Variations

This video by FM Selim Gürcan is a comprehensive repertoire guide to the Turkish Gambit as Black. Its aim is to tie this variation, which lacks a settled name, to the success of the Turkish chess community and establish it in the literature as the “Turkish Gambit”.

The main line

The gambit starts with 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d5 (0:30). After 3.exd5 e4, Black harasses White’s knight and takes the initiative early. The most common line is 3.exd5 e4 4.Qe2 Nf6 5.d3: Black develops with ...Nf6, brings the bishop out via b4 or c5, and, after castling long, pressures the queenside (0:00–10:18).

5.Nc3 Be7 and beyond

In the second main line Black puts the bishop on e7 and completes development calmly; the video shows how to answer White’s d3 or Nxe4 (10:18–14:48). In the third part, 6.Nxe4 0-0 7.d3, Black prioritises development despite White’s extra pawn (14:48–20:32). See the video for details.
